ASBURY PARK, NJ - Mercy Center of Asbury Park has announced Sarah Melici will perform “Fool for Christ: The Story of Dorothy Day” at the Jersey Shore Arts Center in Ocean Grove to benefit Mercy Center’s programs. A single performance will be held on Saturday, March 20th the event starts at 6:30PM. Complimentary refreshments, raffles and opportunities to learn more about Mercy Center will be available.
Sarah Melici, an accomplished actress, has performed the one-woman play across North America since 1998. Melici found inspiration in Dorothy Day’s courageous faith journey. A fervent supporter of social justice, peace and civil rights, Day was an inspiration for many individuals during her lifetime. Even after her death, Day’s message continues to empower many across all faiths and cementing her place as one of the most influential and significant figures in American Catholicism. In Fool for Christ, Sarah explores Day’s loves, spirituality and politics.
“We thank Sarah for her generosity in bringing the inspirational story of Dorothy Day to life right here in our community,” said Sister Carol Ann Henry, RSM, Executive Director of Mercy Center. “Day’s story also brings to life the mission of Mercy Center! It is such a powerful message and we are delighted that this performance will benefit Mercy Center and its programs, in the true spirit of Day herself,” she added. All proceeds for Melici’s performance will directly support the Mercy Center and its programs: Emergency Services, the Family Resource Center and Sisters Academy.
