An incomparable dogsled team and a world-class winter parka system from Northern Outfitters helped veteran musher Hans Gatt win the Yukon Quest International Sled Dog race, cutting the pervious race record by more than a day. The 2010 race was Gatt’s fourth win of the Yukon Quest, tying him for the most wins of the grueling 1000-mile race.
“The trail conditions were really good, my dogs were awesome, and my Northern Outfitters gear worked perfectly. I was able to stay comfortable, warm and dry for the whole nine days. This allowed me to concentrate on my dogs and my race strategy without having to worry about being cold and miserable,” Gatt said. Gatt, a Northern Outfitters Pro Staffer and designer of the Gatt Racing Dog Sled, won the Yukon Quest with a time of 9 days, 1 hour and 38 minutes. He arrived with nine dogs on the line and his great dog, Sonny, showing the way. As soon as he crossed the finish line, he checked and hugged his dogs, thanking all of them for a great race. He then expressed thanks to Northern Outfitters, supplier of his cold weather gear.
“I really want to thank the folks at Northern Outfitters for supplying me with the best cold weather clothing in the world. It stood up to everything the Yukon Quest could throw at it and performed flawlessly.”
Gatt added, “This is the strongest team I think I’ve ever had. We’re really looking forward to the start of the Iditarod in two weeks. Thanks again, Northern Outfitters.”
Gatt pulled into Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Canada, on February 15 at 1:35 p.m.
Northern Outfitters also sponsored the top three mushers winning the shorter Yukon Quest 300, also an Iditarod qualifying race. Those dogsled racers were, in order of their finishes, Sven Haltmann, Magnus Kattenborn and Sean Williams.
