WEI to Share in Celebration of International Women’s Day
PHOENIX, Arizona (March 6, 2010) – The Women’s Entrepreneurship Initiative (WEI), a non-profit Phoenix-based organization, will help celebrate International Women’s Day by hosting the 2nd Annual WEI Dance for Change. International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. IWD has been observed since the early 1900’s and hundreds of events occur each year on March 8th celebrating this day.
Proceeds from the WEI event will go to benefit women in India. WEI provides vocational training and micro-loans for businesses to impoverished women in India, helping them repair themselves and their broken communities in the wake of tragedy.
Heather Murphy, the founder of WEI is Phoenix resident who created the organization upon graduation from ASU in 2008. She has traveled frequently to India and is committed to helping India’s most vulnerable people – widows of suicide, orphans and poor villagers. WEI has worked with other non-profit organizations in India and has helped establish a sewing school in Andhra Pradeshi along with providing micro loans to hundreds of women.
The WEI Dance for Change event will be held at the Mijana Lebanese Grill & Lounge in Tempe on Saturday, March 6, 2010 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Ticket prices are $25 in advance and $28 at the door.
