SHARE, a nonprofit food buying club celebrating its 25th year of service, can make a big difference in the family budget. This volunteer-run organization offers a monthly selection of supermarket-
For families who purchased SHARE’s BIG Value Package every month for the past six months, the savings compared to supermarket prices added up to over $135. That’s the kind of money that can make a big difference for many families, especially those who are struggling in today’s difficult economy.
Anyone can become a member of SHARE—there are no eligibility requirements or membership fees. Every month SHARE’s product list includes a selection of frozen meats, fresh fruits and vegetables, canned and dry goods, organic produce, convenience items and more. Families can pick and choose items a la carte, or they can also choose from two product assortments.
For $25 plus shipping and handling in some areas, the BIG Value Package contains an assortment of frozen meats, dry and/or canned goods, and fresh fruits and vegetables. At just $15, SHARE’s Mini Package contains a smaller assortment that’s ideal for seniors and singles.
SHARE’s staff comparison shops the items in the BIG Value Package at a local store every month to ensure the savings for its members. The savings are consistently over 40%.
For example, in January the $25 BIG Value Package included chicken leg quarters, ground beef patties, pork sausage links, tilapia fillets, chicken breast strips, pork tenderloin, a shrimp & pasta meal, marinara sauce, peach halves, wide egg noodles, minced garlic, potatoes, onions, carrots, cauliflower, apples, oranges, grapefruit and kiwi, plus a surprise bonus item. In the supermarket, similar items would have cost nearly $53, making SHARE’s savings on this package over 53%.
SHARE is now accepting orders for pick-up in March. There is no complicated registration process—all families need to do is place an order.
Orders can also be placed online with credit and debit cards at www.sharewi.org through Sunday, March 14. In addition, SHARE’s main office can accept orders with credit/debit and food stamp cards over the phone toll-free at 800-548-2124 through Friday, March 12.
