During this second phase of the economic crisis period, we've all witnessed that the translation market has not been hugely affected as most people have previously thought.  It remains always legitimate to safely declare that the crisis had an effect, but one a serious one.  The category which remained safe was mainly that of established agencies, companies and individual freelance translators.  
Regarding the rates employed in most translation tasks, there was a drop down as compared to the highly increasing cost of living in most countries.   Competition was also fiercely repressing rates down.  Some language pairs, including Arabic witnessed an increase in such a phenomenon within the past three years.  However, professional translators still need not accept killing rates to survive.  The market remains faithful to the qualified and established professionals.
