Piscataway, NJ: The Haiti Hospital Resurrection Fund (HHRF) today announced that it has received a commitment from Bo Wang, the president of the Student Governing Council at the Rutgers University School of Pharmacy to run in the Unite Half Marathon on behalf of HHRF. Wang’s commitment comes on the heels of many recent news agency reports indicating that a majority of the donations raised for Haiti relief to date remain undistributed and unused. “One has to wonder what is taking so long for all the donated funds to be allocated to entities like HHRF that are ready and able to immediately go in and provide essential medical assistance,”
On April 18, 2010, Wang will be running in the event, which takes place on the campus of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. When the devastating earthquake in Haiti happened, Wang was volunteering on a humanitarian mission in Peru, and upon his return to the U.S., he immediately started to search for a way to help the people of Haiti. "I researched many of the aid organizations, and while many of the other organizations' short-term disaster-relief efforts are laudable, it is easy to get short-sighted and miss the bigger picture and need for sustainable health care support for Haiti,” Wang said of his decision to support HHRF. “I decided that the goals of the Haiti Hospital Resurrection Fund are exactly the long-term, sustainable efforts that I want to support and raise awareness for. The people of Haiti are counting on us.”
“I am very impressed at Bo’s vision and enthusiasm to raise awareness and funds for HRRF. Rather than just making a donation to one of the many aid organizations, he is dedicated to ensuring that his efforts are aimed at his specific goals for sustainable health care rebuilding, which are exactly the goals of HHRF,” said Brandon Graham, founder and president of HHRF.
“Bo’s active involvement in supporting HHRF is a welcome addition to the rapidly growing team of partners and alliances actively engaged with and supporting the HHRF,” said Dr. Sergio Segarra, an emergency physician in Miami, FL and member of the HHRF Board of Directors. “Bo Wang’s contribution to the HHRF grassroots effort is a powerful addition to our cause, and we join him in asking for the public’s support for providing immediate and sustainable healthcare infrastructure in Haiti by supporting HHRF,” said Graham.
In January, HHRF announced its strategic partnership with Project C.U.R.E. that will allow the two groups to work together toward a common goal of rebuilding hospitals and providing much needed medical infrastructure. "We are committed to a long-term strategy of building and rebuilding the country's healthcare infrastructure, and our partnership with Haiti Hospital Resurrection Fund is an essential part of that work," said Douglas Jackson, CEO of Project C.U.R.E.
