Free Self Defense Classes Being Offered for Hope House Donation Feb. 20, 2010.

Feb. 15, 2010 - PRLog -- Overland Park, Kansas. TITLE Boxing Club and Celsius Tannery have teamed up to offer a day of self defense classes. Saturday, February 20, 2010, TITLE Boxing Club will suspend regular boxing and kickboxing fitness classes to offer three, one and one-half hour self defense training classes to the public for a $10.00 donation benefiting Hope House.

A $10.00 donation provides attendees the training class, plus a one week tanning package to Celsius Tannery valued at $15.00. Classes will be held at 9:00 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at three TITLE Boxing Club locations: 119th & Metcalf and 151st & Antioch in Overland Park, Kansas and one at 50 Hwy & 291 South in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. “Hope House is a local charity that we believe in. They offer abuse victims a place of refuge and TITLE Boxing Club can teach women and men how to protect themselves from abuse,” said Danny Campbell, Managing Partner and retried professional boxer.

The self defense classes will be taught by professional TITLE Boxing Club trainers. Attendees will learn how to avoid putting themselves into a dangerous situation, and how to evade an attacker. According to instructor Joe Perry, rather than teaching how to fight, these courses teach avoidance by demonstrating safe behaviors and attitudes.

“We place an emphasis on identifying risks in people and in your environment. Then we teach people the three primary self defense goals and how to accomplish those goals by understanding strike zones and techniques,” explained Perry.

“According to Hope House’s website, the greatest risk factor for being in an abusive relationship is being somehow vulnerable. Through this one day event, we can raise awareness for Hope House and its efforts while encouraging women and men to participate in good self-care which can lower their risk of involvement in an abusive relationship,” said Campbell.

“At Celsius Tannery we feel very strongly about giving back to the community which has been so great to us for 15 years. With such a large percentage of our clients being females, I feel very strongly about giving back to charities that will hold a special place in their hearts. That’s why we are also giving a percentage of proceeds earned from all of the Celsius locations from February 2 - 28, 2010 to Hope House,” Messer adds.
