Feb. 14, 2010 - PRLog -- Jamie McMurray has won the 2010 Daytona 500 holding off a late charge from Dale Earnhardt Jr.  With a record 21 different leaders during the race McMurray was the 9th different winner in the last 9 years.

Nascar fans were treated to a dramatic race with stoppages due to track problems and hard racing for the last 80 miles.The race was lucky to be concluded due to a pothole on turns 1 and 2 and had to be stopped twice to repair the damage.  McMurray won his 4th career Sprint Cup Race just managing to hold off Dale Earnhardt Jr who went from 10th to 2nd with 2 laps remaining.

McMurray who was in tears after the race had said "I told my wife today that if I won tonight, I was going to cry,".  With Dale Earnhardt Jr on the charge McMurray added "When I saw the 88 behind me, I thought, ‘Oh no.’ He had a good car and I just thought—Earnhardt and Daytona, they win all the time it just seems like,”.  Fortunately for McMurray he was able to hold out for the win.

There were 52 lead changes during the race - the third highest total in Daytona 500 history.
