SAN FRANCISCO, CA What happens when you bring master musicians and technicians together and challenge them to put their most creative energy to work? It's called The Valence Project (http://thevalenceproject.com)
The music is a texture of electronica, trip-hop and avante garde. It resembles Zero Seven blended with Radiohead style and Jeff Beck on guitar. Influences from Prince to Bjork to Brian Eno can be heard. Inspired by a conversation between producer/engineer, Cookie Marenco (www.bluecoastrecords.com)
"We we were on a deadline to get drum tracks recorded by Brain before he left for a tour. We recorded the drums to tape, reassembled to digital then threw the whole thing back to tape then added the rest of the instruments and vocals. Far from the 'normal' process," says Marenco, most known for her high resolution acoustic recording. "I've worked with these incredible players many times over the years and this was by far the most challenging session. The Valence Project pushed us all to our limits both technically and creatively."
The Valence Project formally debuts on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2010 though not in a fashion most people expect. While most of the songs were written in the studio, the first single "Who Do You Love", is a Bo Diddley cover sung by contemporary vocal interpreter, Deborah Charles. The haunting primal groove set the stage for a remix contest scheduled to begin in March. TVP unveils 9 remixes for your Valentine's Day listening at their home page, www.TheValenceProject.com and asks you the question, Who Do You Love?
