In our country every time there is more need for an information culture for early detection and prevention of human diseases, so the Mexican Society of Urology (SMU) will conduct a campaign that promotes health care, especially among men over 45 years.
Dr. David Calvo Dominguez, President of the Mexican Society of Urology (SMU), informed NotieSe men compared with women, have less concern for their health, it explained, "is due to the patriarchal culture that motivates men to attend the consultation with the urologist.
The specialist said that it was found that 7 out of 10 of prostate cancer patients attending medical evaluation because they already have symptoms and have an advanced illness. Also stated that this type of cancer occupies the leading cause of malignant tumors in Mexico. Only in 2001 caused more than 4 thousand deaths in our country.
Meanwhile, Dr. Jorge Jaspensen Gastelum, SMU vice president, argued that the prejudices and taboos about masculinity are causing a problem men face when cancer can really help with a simple revision of the prostate. The reasons that men have responded to evade review, inter alia, "that from childhood is forming an idea of the strength of man from attitudes show no weakness", as it could be male sexual passivity.
For Father's Health
To mark Father's Day to be held on 19 June, the Mexican Society of Urology in collaboration with Merck Sharp & Dohme, made of 20 to 24 June, the national information campaign and detection of prostate diseases by Health of the Father, which is completely free and will run for 10 cities, including the Federal District.
"The campaign is a way in which urologists want to show our concern for human health and contribute our experience and time to detect diseases that may endanger the lives of thousands of men, which can and should be treated promptly "said Dr. Calvo Dominguez.
Medical Explanation
The specialist explained that the prostate is an organ that grows throughout the life of man, however in some cases growth can cause trouble urinating, signs of stronger growth than normal. The warning signs are deterioration of the flow of urine through the urethra and up to urinate at night.
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) or enlarged prostate is the most common prostate disease and affects 50% of men older than 50 years. Its incidence increases progressively with age, so that at 80 years, 80% of men have symptoms attributable to this disease, he said.
When the disease has progressed significantly, the urologist must perform surgery to remove the abnormal growth of the prostate, but in some patients who are detected timely medical treatment can avoid this intervention. This is another reason why we recommend evaluation by a urologist at least once a year after 45 years of age, stressed the President of the Society of Endourology, Laparoscopy and Litrotipsia.
Finally, doctors and Jaspersen Gastelúm Calvo Dominguez invited the male population to overcome the fear of going to the urologist, because only through timely diagnosis can prevent, control and cure these diseases.
The campaign will be conducted in the cities of Monterrey, Guadalajara, Puebla, Chihuahua, Tijuana, Veracruz, Morelia, Culiacan, Durango, Federal District, will involve over 100 urologists distributed in these cities. During this campaign will be conducted free of charge measurement of prostate specific antigen (PSA) @ http://www.eprostateproblems.com/
