Feb. 13, 2010 - PRLog -- Recent research done in 2005, and further advanced in 2009, shows the possibility of a correlation between the grey/white matter ratios of brain tissue in the pre-frontal cortex and our individual aptitudes for telling lies. there is a difference between the brains of pathological liars and autistic adults and children. So much so that intelligence agencies and police services are looking at the research in a very interested manner

Whilst this does not detract from the accepted scientific opinion that most lying is habit, it does extend our understanding of why we are accepting of so many lies, in so many areas of endeavour.

A new book, A Brief History Of Lies, takes a light hearted approach to the subject but carries with it strong questions about why we lie to ourselves, and how the evolution of ideas has allowed us to see certainties where there are none. From religion to nationhood, from childhood to adulthood our lives are governed by lying.

Looking at the work done with children and progressing through the ways in which adults use lies, to the endless lists saints and psychologists have generated to explain  the kinds of lies we tell, this books surveys a wide range of human civilisation. Of how politics is organised to be endemic with liars, how war and business and are one and the same thing, and how love has become so rife with lies and fantasy.

The book look at how religions have evolved over the centuries out of many misunderstandings and lack of knowledge of how nature works. How we progress from the leis that are told us in childhood to see them as a weapon we can use to facilitate success and stem failure in our lives.

Finally it looks at the work done in trying to tell when we are being lied to, and the little nuances and micro-expressions that give everyone but the most astute and well trained liars, away.

The hard messages contained in this book are alleviated by the illustrations by Calvin Innes who is gaining a reputation for excellent and amusing artwork and the extensive quotes throughout from the famous such as Mark Twain, George Byron, Henry Miller, Plato and many others.
