Feb. 12, 2010 - PRLog -- While Ian Agard was filming his first feature film Bend and Break, the writer/director/producer knew that he wasn’t going to take the conventional approach to share his new film with an audience.

“The normal path for an independent filmmaker is to make your movie, submit it and wait for acceptance into a film festival then hope to attract a distributor” said the 34 year old. “I just couldn’t wait to share my movie with others so I decided to self-distribute the movie myself.”

That meant Ian had to build a website, offer fans a trailer and develop a shameless self-promoter mentality.

Raised in Cambridge before coming to Toronto to attend university, Agard established Speed of Sound Entertainment two years ago and produced two short films, Karma, that aired on U.S. television and was later acquired by Ouat Media Distribution Company, and Give that he also produced and directed.

He also enrolled in a one-year Canadian government-funded Independent Film & Television Producer's Program at Centennial College."This program provided me with the tools I needed to learn more about becoming a successful film and TV producer and entrepreneur," said Agard.

His new 64-minute feature film was shot in his downtown apartment, Regent Park and at the Toronto Public Library in seven days and production lasted six months.

“I’ve come to learn that in order for me to be successful as an independent filmmaker I had to see myself as an artist-entrepreneur” said Ian.

Agard is working on his fourth film, No Ordinary Love, a romantic movie to be released in 2011.
