Web hosting provider HostICan (HostICan.com)
announced that they have taken measures to become more energy conscious. They recently moved into a new facility, located near the Washington, VA area, which has been designed specifically with energy efficiency in mind. They are pledging to cut down on the amount of greenhouse gas emissions by making every possible upgrade, even down to the smallest detail.
The construction of HostICan’s new facility, a remodeled warehouse, was started in April 2009 and was recently completed in January 2010. They have since made the transition into the new facility which has amble room for rapid growth.
To cut down on heating costs the largest area of the building is positioned towards the west so that the building can take full advantage of the afternoon sun. All of the windows in the building are covered with energy-efficient shade screens. The screens are programmed to adjust according to sun exposure which in turn cuts down on cooling costs.
“We are aware of the negative impact large companies have on the environment,”
HostICan president and chief executive officer Denis Motova said in a statement. “We are also aware of the positive changes large companies can make and the impact that has on the environment. This is why we have taken immense steps from how our new facility was build to how it functions. Even the smallest steps make a difference, for example call center monitors go directly into power save mode when [they are] not in use, we have motion censored lighting throughout the building and we use recycled products whenever we are able. This way we are sure that we are functioning in a responsible and more resource-efficient environment. This is what we strongly believe and this is something that we hope our customers like to see as well.”
HostICan’s efforts really show from the facility siting and renovations to design, construction, operation, and maintenance. The company sees this action as a massive effort that reflects how energy issues are a higher priority for its customers.
“We are focusing more heavily on the use of virtualization and automation technologies as well as unified storage, which utilizes less power. The data center uses energy efficient storage infrastructures fixed with multiple power-saving approaches,”
Motova stated. “Also, we have taken full advantage of leveraging our Cisco network for superior application performance. This not only saves energy but reduces the cost for our customers, which just makes good business sense.”
