Learning the difference between a salad and a dinner fork may not get them into college, but chances are it will help 30 students from three Westchester high schools to become more well-rounded adults as they make their way in today’s complex world.

The Ritz-Carlton, Westchester has invited the teen-agers – participants in a mentoring program for girls – to a sit down dinner Thursday, Feb. 11 at 5:15 p.m. at the White Plains hostelry. At the dinner, girls from the Honor Mentoring program will learn from social etiquette expert Judith Ré about the ins and outs of proper table manners among other social skills.

“We are truly honored to host these young ladies here at the Ritz-Carlton where we hope they will not only enjoy themselves, but learn some social skills that will give them a head start as they embark on  college and careers,’’ said Marcie McGeehan, Director of Sales and Marketing at The Ritz-Carlton Westchester.

Nicole Sheindlin, executive director of the Her Honor Mentoring program, said she and her stepmother Judith Sheindlin, author and star of the “Judge Judy” television show, founded the program three years ago as a way to give high school girls from families of limited means the opportunity to work with successful women role models and learn important life skills. The program now serves girls in Mamaroneck, White Plains and Mount Vernon school districts.

“We are so very grateful to The Ritz-Carlton and Judith Ré for providing this opportunity for our girls,’’ said Nicole Sheindlin. “It is all part of our efforts to give them real-life experiences that will help them to expand their horizons and for a future beyond high school.’’

At the hotel, the girls will be served a four-course meal featuring some difficult-to-eat items that will serve as examples of obstacles they will need to avoid to successfully navigate the dinner table. In addition to learning how not to slurp the soup or clang the silverware, the girls will be taught how to properly set the table for a multi-course meal.

The course is being taught by Judith Ré, founder of the renowned Judith Ré Académie for Instruction in the Social Graces, as part of her Social Savvy® classes, which are being offered at The Ritz-Carlton, Westchester. Established in 1986, the Judith Ré Académie for Instruction in the Social Graces is geared toward children and young adults with the goal of teaching good manners, respect, responsibility, and sensitivity.

Judith Ré is also the author of “Social Savvy®:  A Teenager’s Guide to Feeling Confident in Any Situation" and has been a guest on many national television shows such as “Good Morning America,” “The Today Show,” the Travel Channel, and CNN.
