Aachen, 5 February 2010 – When Ernst Schmachtenberg, Rector of RWTH Aachen University opens the fourth BIOMEDICA on March 17, hundreds of life science experts and business development managers will be in Aachen to present on one of the fastest growing fields of the future. The two-day exchange of cutting-edge research by renowned representatives in the life sciences industries around Aachen, Eindhoven, Hasselt, Leuven, Maastricht and Liège has grown to become a prominent conference in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. After being hosted in Maastricht and Liège the past two years, BIOMEDICA 2010 returns once again to its origins in Aachen. Also noteworthy is the fact that this is the first time representatives from China will be participating.
The congress and exhibition creates added value from its integrated presentation of formerly individualized topics and by focusing on convergent technologies. "We are meeting for cross-border networking and to provide the most current information first hand," says Fred Bollen, project manager and spokesman for the three-country team managing the organization. The thematic diversity ranges from modern diagnostics, new care models, biomaterials designed for unique requirements, to new business models for patient care and the topic of troubles versus success stories for life science companies. A major exhibition of new products and services also reflects the broad range of current developments.
The first day of the congress offers three parallel sessions on the following topics: “Bringing personalised medicine to the clinic” in the session on disease specific diagnostics;
Developments in epigenetics, biofunctional materials and business development are the topics for the second conference day. Professor Frans Ramaekers Maastricht University and Professor Martin Möller from the Wool Research Institute at RWTH University in Aachen will present findings from their research. Altogether more than 40 experts from research and industry will give insights into new developments. Keynote speaker, Professor George Guo-Qiang Chen from Tsinghua University in Beijing will present “Medical applications of a new class of biopolymers”
