Affordable Training Tool Now Available for Families with Teenage Drivers

Parents of teenage drivers across the country are desperately looking for new ways to safely guide and train their teens to become responsible drivers. Many parents are turning to GPS vehicle tracking systems to bolster their efforts.

Feb. 18, 2010 - PRLog -- National statistics confirm parent's aren't just being overly protective with concerns regarding their teen's safety behind the wheel.  In 2008 the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that nine teens ages 16 to 19 died every day from motor vehicle injuries. Per mile driven, teen drivers ages 16 to 19 are four times more likely than older drivers to crash.

GPS tracking systems like the Ride Along GPS gives parents computer access to the location of their teen’s vehicle 24/7 through a customized website.  Through the website parents can log on to:

-  View in real time where their vehicle is currently located by address
-  View each location their teen has driven to by address
-  See how fast their teen drove from location to location
-  View how long the vehicle was stationary at each address.

Customized alerts can be turned on that notify parents via mobile phone text or email regarding:

-  The car’s location by address whenever the car turns off or on
-  When the car exceeds a pre-set MPH
-  When the car drives into or out of a pre-set geographical area such as a school zone or friend’s house.

“When implemented correctly, vehicle tracking systems like the Ride Along GPS brings measurable, healthy accountability into the parent – teen driver relationship.  Teens think twice before making a poor decision in their car when they know their parent will be able to review their driving actions.”  Says Craig Kupp of Kupp Management Services, LLC, the marketing arm of the Ride Along GPS system.  Unlike standard locating devices such as cell phones that put undue strain on battery life and are vulnerable to teen’s manipulating the data by “inadvertently” turning the phone off or leaving at a friend's house, devices like the Ride Along GPS are installed in and powered by the vehicle itself.

Kupp says that his company highly encourages parents to be up front with their teen about the device and its purpose instead of installing the device as a means to covertly spy on their teen’s driving behavior.  “We strongly advocate open dialogue between parents and their teen during implementation and use to keep lines of communication open.  Often times it helps the teen to hear the parent share about some of the poor decisions they made while learning how to become a responsible driver.  My 16 year old son has the Ride Along GPS in his car and I was able to share with him that it is in place to help him think twice before making a driving decision that he might regret for the rest of his life.  Some things in life are better learned the hard-way - driving responsibly is not one of them because lives are at stake.”

The Ride Along GPS device is available on line at www.ridealonggps.com and costs only $129.95 for the device (plus $8.00 shipping and handling) and $14.95 per month for unlimited airtime access.  The device is about the size of a credit card and is easily installed in almost all cars 1996 or newer.  “You can install the device at home and be up and running in as little as 15 to 20 minutes”, says Kupp.
