The talented, Portland-based fashion designer Janeane Marie Ceccanti, now on Lifetime’s Project Runway, developed her abilities in Portland where she graduated from The Art Institute of Portland in Fall 2008 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Apparel Design. As a student at The Art Institute of Portland, Ceccanti was very involved in College events and activities and made an impression on her instructors.
“Janeane was a great student,” says Sue Bonde, Department Director for the Apparel, Accessory and Fashion Marketing degree programs. “She pushed the limits and learned to take risks.”
Ceccanti says she used her studio classes at The Art Institute of Portland to get a hands-on glimpse of what design and production process entails. “Being in school gives you the freedom to make mistakes and learn from them, and explore your perspective as a designer,” says Ceccanti.
Since graduating, Ceccanti has had a significant impact on Portland’s Fashion scene, with the launch of her women’s line, Janeane Marie. At 2009’s Portland Fashion Week, Janeane had the opportunity to showcase her Autumn/Winter collection, in The Art Institute of Portland’s show, as well as, her Spring/Summer collection in Portland Fashion Week’s “Emerging Designer” showcase.
Now, a contestant on Lifetime’s, Project Runway, Season 7, Ceccanti has proven to excel under pressure. Competing for the chance to showcase a collection at Bryant Park, during New York Fashion Week, Ceccanti’s talent, self-motivation and grass-roots mentality, may be just want is needed to place her among the top three finalists on the show.
Ceccanti’s clothing is sold locally in Portland at Radish Underground, and on her website.
