Award-winning pianist Dmitri Levkovich made an exceptional gesture in his Ashland, OH recital on February 7, 2010: He dedicated the recital to the memory of Fanny Milstein on the 35th anniversary of her passing. This was a remarkable gesture of friendship to Jona Rapoport who works closely with artists and art organizations as a radio producer and host ("Art & Fine Living with Jona"), and as an artist manager and publicist.
Dmitri Levkovich, pianist and composer, has been described by the press as “…one of the truly elect, an artist with technique, a ravishing touch, sensitivity, perspective and intelligence. Seldom do these qualities come together so compellingly.”
Mr. Levkovich has won top prizes in numerous international competitions, most recently first prize in the JOSE ITURBI piano competition (2009). Other prizes include Hilton Head (1st prize), Viardo (1st prize, as well as Public prize), Cleveland (Chopin Prize), New Orleans (2nd prize), and has been featured as soloist with many orchestras, including the Louisiana Philharmonic and the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine. He has appeared in concert in Austria, France, Canada, Chile, Japan, Israel, Mexico, Poland, United Kingdom, Ukraine and United States.
Also distinguished as a composer, Mr. Levkovich received a Degree in Composition from the Curtis Institute of Music and his compositions have been performed by orchestras in the United States and in Europe. He performed a debut recital at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall in December of 2006.
The recital took place at The Department of Music at Ashland University, Ohio, on Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m. The program included Bach’s Prelude & Fugue in G# minor; Beethoven’s Sonata in D minor, Op. 31, No. 2; Carl Vine's Piano Sonata No. 1; Chopin’s romantic Barcarolle, Op. 60 in F# major, and Schubert’s Wanderer Fantasy, Op. 15 for solo piano.
