Most headaches are a result of problems in the trigeminovascular system. Migraine drugs are designed to alter this critical system that is responsible for Migraines, Tesion-Type Headaches, Episodic Tension-Type Headaches, Sinus Headaches and Chronic Daily Headaches. The use of drugs changes brain neurotransmitters with the central nervous system. The part of the brain that is most critical is the Trigeminal Nerve, often called the "Dentists Nerve:.
The Trigeminal nerve is responsible for over half of the entire input into brain and the majority of that input comes from the periodontal ligaments of the teeth, the jaw muscles and the jaw joints. The trigeminal nerve also goes to the lining of the sinuses and controls most sinus headaches, to the tensor of the soft palate and controls the eustachian tube that causes pressure in the ears and stuffy feelings and the tensor of the eardrum that can cause tinnitus. Most imortantly it controls the blood flow to the anterior 2/3 of the brain thru the meninges.
The theory of neuromuscular dentistry is expained in an easy to understan manner in two articles in Sleep and Health Journal. One is about patients and specific problems and the second article explains why Neuromuscular Dentistry works. The first article "SUFFER NO MORE: dE3ALING WITH THE GREAT IMPOSTER" can be found at the Sleep and Health website @ http://sleepandhealth.com/
The website http://www.ihateheadaches.org has extensive information about neuromuscular dentistry and headache prevention and treatment.
