November 19, 2009 -- Boston, MA – The Retailer’s Association of Massachusetts (RAM) has named Blackstone’s of Beacon Hill as one of the state’s top retailers, honoring them with the Community Service award. RAM announced the winners of its 2009 Awards of Excellence at an awards ceremony luncheon on Thursday in Waltham, MA, marking the 12th anniversary of the Retailer’s Association of Massachusetts Awards of Excellence (RAMAEs).

Through their work with nonprofits such as Boston WGBH and the New England Conservatory, Blackstone’s has set the bar for community involvement in neighborhood businesses. A business that has always been committed to serving the people of Boston, their support of local charities and organizations has given them an important presence in the Boston community.
“As Ghandi said: ‘A customer is the most important visitor on our premises, he is not dependent on us. We are dependent on him. He is not an interruption in our work. He is the purpose of it. He is not an outsider in our business. He is part of it. We are not doing him a favor by serving him. He is doing us a favor by giving us an opportunity to do so,’” said co-owners Jennifer Hill and Mark Duffield in a joint statement.
In addition to the Community Service category, awards were given to Retailer of the Year, Creative Concepts, Creative Display, Restaurant of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and Advertising & Promotion.
The Retailers Association of Massachusetts is a statewide trade association of more than 3,000 retailers of all types and sizes. RAM was founded in 1910, and is based in Boston. The retail sector in Massachusetts employs 560,000 residents, and has total sales of $90 billion annually.
