Feb. 10, 2010 - PRLog -- Speaking on Justin Dealey’s Saturday morning show on BBC 3CR on 30th January, Waste King's Andy Cattigan outlined the new regulations, which came into force from 1st February this year. Andy’s performance can be heard on the Waste King website at www.wasteking.co.uk

The new regulations came into force in the light of figures, such as those on the ‘recycle more’ website (www.reclcyle-more.co.uk), that only three per cent of batteries are currently recycled - leaving 22,000 tonnes of household batteries to go into landfill sites where they can leak harmful chemicals into the soil. Further details of the new regulations can be found at http://www.batteryback.org/

In particular, the new regulations state that any organisations supplying a total of more than 32 kilos of batteries per year must have a scheme to take back old, used batteries for free. This includes having collecting bins for old batteries on-site and it involves a commitment on the part of the supplier to recycle these returned batteries.

Earlier in the month, Andy and his colleague from Waste King, Glenn Currie, brought their recycling and environmentally friendly waste management skills to BBC 3CR when they were guests in ‘The Expert Hour’, part of Lorna Milton’s afternoon show. Among other things, Andy and Glenn explained how to dispose of the ephemera of the Christmas and New Year celebrations in the most environmentally friendly way.

“Radio – especially local radio – has a key role to play in helping people to become more aware of waste issues, including the need for more recycling,” said Andy Cattigan.

“At Waste King, we’re happy to provide advice and guidance to as many people as possible on all aspects of recycling and environmentally friendly waste disposal. So we’re delighted to be able to help the BBC in this way.”

Waste King has publicly pledged its commitment to recycle a substantial and significant percentage of all the waste it collects from its customers – thus avoiding using the landfill option wherever possible. Moreover, it has promised that all the waste it collects is disposed of in an environmentally friendly way.

Waste King provides a wide range of waste collection and recycling services for both domestic and commercial clients including house clearances, office clearance, shop refurbishments, general rubbish removal, garden & garage clearance, wait & load and skip hire.
