On April 15th this year a new Customs post will open in Bozburun Turkey serving the Bozburun Peninsula. This is excellent news for private yacht owners and gulet cruises as they can now clear Turkish Customs locally in Bozburun when entering/leaving Turkish waters. Traditional Turkish gulet tours cruising Simi and the other Greek islands starting from the Bozburun Peninsula will now save a day on a typical cruise compared to those starting in Marmaris. Gulet cruises sailing from the Bozburun Peninsula can now avoid the long detour down the Datca Peninsula to Datca and sail directly to Simi. The new Turkish Customs post will be open from April to October 2010, serving the main charter season.
This is expected to be a massive boost for the local Tourism Industry in Bozburun as it is expected that many of the private gulet charter cruise companies will switch operations from Bodrum and Marmaris to Bozburun, saving turn around time for local cruises. Bozburun is situated on the end of Bozburun Peninsula, approximately 35 km from the city of Marmaris, so easy for transfers from the nearby Dalaman airport which now has flights to Europe throughout the year.
