Yomps volunteer Andy Burnett will be taking part in the Bath Half Marathon to raise funds towards his upcoming trip to South Africa where he will be volunteering on the Wilderness Conservation Project.
Based deep in the heart of the South Africa, near Hoedspruit, Andy will be volunteering on a game reserve for four weeks to assist with the wild cheetah re-introduction project, learn about game reserve management in Africa, track animals such as lions, leopards, elephants and rhino and contribute towards the future sustainability of a unique and beautiful wilderness area.
Andy, who is a second year student in Dance at Bath Spa University, has been raising funds since February 2009 and has so far completed the Bath Family Run (dressed as Winnie the Pooh), organised raffles, sold cakes, done car boot sales, organised a school reunion party and has even been sponsored to have his legs waxed!
His biggest challenge will come on Sunday 7th March 2010 when he’ll be aiming to complete the Bath Half Marathon (21.1km) in less than two hours. Already well into his training, Andy runs six miles a day (even in the snow!) in addition to his usual regime. Unfortunately, he’s suffering shin splints but remains confident and is even planning to run the distance in a full length tiger costume!
So far, Andy has raised £2000 and is £1000 away from his £3000 target.
