Many main roads and b-roads have suffered as a result of the dramatic drop in temperatures, with vehicles taking the full brunt of the damage thanks to unseen potholes and invisible cracks in the road - creating potentially treacherous driving conditions across the country.
UK breakdown cover specialists, AA has revealed that it has been receiving an average of seven UK car insurance (http://www.compareinsurers.com) claims a day due to poor road conditions and pothole damage since mid-January – the beginning of the severe icy blast. The worrying issue is that this could escalate further if the cold weather returns and the roads remain unrepaired.
Simon Douglas from the AA said: “It would take a quarry-like pothole to cause the sort of damage that would justify a car insurance claim, but there are certainly some 'A-list' holes out there.”
With further snow and icy conditions expected towards the end of this week drivers are being encouraged to once again prepare their vehicles thoroughly by ensuring all windows, wheels, lights and brakes are working sufficiently, combined with vigilant driving to withstand hazardous highways.
