PRLog - Feb. 9, 2010 - CROOK, U.K. -- Curtains and rugs or carpets in a room adds variety but at the same time they absorb light and make a room seem dark and bleak. Installing glass tiles in parts of house reflect light and make a room larger and brighter. It can be combined with ceramic or porcelain tiles for breath taking and expensive look.
Glass tiles are generally made of recycled glass which makes it environ friendly. Recycled crushed glass is blended with metallic oxide to give glass added strength. Add this stage colour may also be added. For commercial and industrial flooring use, glass tiles are available with reinforced hardness and durability. Up till now glass panes have been used in decorative windows and glass tiles in walls. But still it is not considered for homes assuming glass tiles to be too fragile for foot traffic.
But actually glass tiles are very durable and sturdy. According to tests run by the ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) the water absorption of glass tiles is 0.03%, breaking strength is 420 lbs., and the abrasion resistance index is 137.5. The MOH (measure of hardness) rating for glass tiles is between 5 and 6, making them very durable. Glass tiles are also available with reinforced hardness and durability, suitable for commercial and industrial flooring uses.
Also it is a health benefit for those who suffer from allergies. It can be maintained through the simple use of any glass cleaner. Glass tiles resist any type of water and never stain. Addition to that glass tiles never fade or scratch. Though it has some drawback i.e. is little expensive when compared to other tiles and slippery when wet. But these drawbacks are underweight by its qualities.
Glass bathroom is an elegant and durable solution. It gives a stunning look and high vibrancy to your house.
