Feb. 9, 2010 - PRLog -- HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA 02/07/2010 – After 2 days of heavy rain, Superbowl Sunday turned out to be the perfect day at the beach for the annual Surf City Marathon, Half Marathon and 5k.  The heat came on later in the morning, which probably came as a surprise for most of the runners, leading to dehydration and cramping.

For the medical team, which consisted of more than 50 volunteers from different professions, this meant there was more work than originally anticipated.  The medical team consisted of medical doctors, medical students, physical therapists, nurses, athletic trainers, chiropractors, EMTs and paramedics, all who used their profession’s skills in working towards a common goal, keeping the race safe.

“There were quite a few runners who needed some assistance when we assessed them at the finish line,” stated Dr. Sebastian Gonzales, an Active Release Chiropractor from Huntington Beach. “It’s great to see smiles when people finish, but that’s not always the case; sometimes they just push too hard for a better time.”

Aneela Isaacs, an Emergency Department Nurse, commented about what an inspirational day it was, “Some of the stories behind the runners are so heart-warming.  It’s good to see people running for a reason or in the memory of someone they love.”

Over 20,000 runners participated in the race this year, for many it is an event they don’t miss year after year.
