Strictly Sail Miami (http://www.strictlysailmiami.com/attendees/about.aspx) is one of the premier boat shows for sailors in the country. It takes place February 11–15, 2010, at the Sea Isle Marina in downtown Miami, just minutes from Bayside Marketplace.

As a featured speaker at Strictly Sail Miami, Hayes will be speaking Thursday and Friday on the topic of “Saving Sailing,” based on his recent thought-provoking book of that title.

Author Hayes will share the background of researching and writing his influential book; he will share the facts, dispel some myths about sailing, and offer suggestions for how to build enthusiasm for the sport across the generations.

Saving Sailing is a provocative argument and action plan – sure to appeal to sailors everywhere. The subtitle of his book suggests the wide-ranging nature of the work: Saving Sailing: The Story of Choices, Families, Time Commitments and How We Can Create a Better Future.

Hayes was a director of the Milwaukee Yacht Club for four years and was its fleet captain. He is now on the Board of Directors of the Milwaukee Community Sailing Center, leading its Program Committee. His sailing resume includes thousands of course races and thousands of offshore miles in the Chicago-Mackinac, Queen’s Cup, Hook, and Trans-Superior races.

Hayes is a partner at the research firm FiveTwelve Group, working with Fortune 500 businesses (such as GE, ITT, and Schneider National) to improve the way they listen to customers and markets. Hayes is an avid sailor with nearly thirty years of racing experience. He actively races and cruises with his family together on Syrena, a B-32, out of the South Shore Yacht Club in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Saving Sailing (240 pages) is available at fine bookstores locally or online.
