Feb. 8, 2010 - PRLog -- A local Sierra Leonean, Saffiatu Kuda Harper, a retired member of the U. S. Army, is raising awareness of a community project in her birth country by offering a Free Dinner with entertainment by Legacy of Weyanoke, an A Cappella vocal ensemble specializing in the songs and stories of the African Diaspora on Sat, February 13 at 6pm at Lighthouse Worship Center in Hayes (Gloucester), Virginia.

Saffiatu just returned in January after spending a month in her home country, Sierra Leone.  As part of her trip, her organization, Share HEART in Africa, Inc. donated new and gently used clothing and shoes to two organizations, The Disabled and Awareness Assoc and City of Rest.  They also donated school supplies to 100 students (10 students from 10 schools) in Freetown and the Western Rural Districts of Sierra Leone.  The school supplies included Pens, Pencils, Notebooks, Calculators, Mathematical sets and Bibles.
Democracy is slowly being re-established after the civil war from 1991 to 2002 that resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and the displacement of more than 2 million people (about one-third of the population).   The population of Freetown, the capital city is more than 1 million.   Many rural people fled to the city to escape the rebel Revolutionary United Front (RUF) that is responsible for a campaign of terror involving hundreds of random amputations (cutting off of hands, legs, ears, etc.), rapes, murders, and lootings.

Millions of people in Sierra Leone live in poverty.  Only 47% of the population has access to safe drinking water sources, 40 % of the children suffer from chronic malnutrition, and only 34% attend Secondary School (ages 12-17 years).  And the majority of its children are Petty Traders and Hawkers.

Share HEART in Africa plans to start its building project in Sierra Leone in late September 2010.  The organization seeks and promotes the welfare of children in Sierra Leone, West Africa.  Its vision is to see the HEARTs of African children transformed by giving them Hope for their future, promoting Education, Aspiring them to dream, motivating them to become Responsible citizens, and teaching them about the Truth in Jesus.

Share HEART in Africa, Inc. is dedicated to fulfilling the great commission as set forth in Matthew 28:19 ensuring that every child be given the opportunity to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the love of God.   We will offer a safe, healthy, educational, and nurturing environment by providing food, clothing, medical assistance, vocational training and housing to vulnerable children in Africa, encouraging them to become productive citizens in their community and around the globe.
