Feb. 8, 2010 - PRLog -- C.W. Hood Yachts debuted their new One Design 32’ Daysailer at the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) “Strictly Sail Show” at Chicago’s Navy Pier this past weekend.

“Over the years, I have been thinking about a One Design Daysailer that is beautiful to look at while quick on its heels that we could develop as a new One Design class,” says owner and founder of C.W. Hood Yachts, Chris Hood. “We think the market is right for this type of design, today -- a look that sparks your emotion when you see it under sail while racing around the buoys. Combine this emotion with a helm that feels like you are driving a racecar and you satisfy that dream of owning a beautiful performance sailboat. There really is nothing out there quite like this look and feel.”

The One Design 32’ Daysailer’s unique design features a large, open, fully water-tight cockpit with comfortable bench seats.  Everything is within easy reach for the single hander or there’s plenty of room for a team of crewmembers racing around the buoys. The expansive foredeck has a flush-deck, water-tight hatch, which allows for easy maneuverability for crew members doing headsail duty while not detracting from the lines of the boat. Stowage can be found in both forward and aft lazarettes for sails, miscellaneous gear and a designed space for lunch coolers.

Displacing only 2750 pounds, hull construction is vacuum bagged Corecel™ foam utilizing biaxial fabrics. The design sports a high lift carbon fiber rudder and self-aligning low drag / shallow draft lead keel with a 4’draft. Feature hull colors can be the owner’s choice with a molded-in cove stripe and painted boot top.

The Deck is also vacuum bagged Corecel™ foam with non-skid finish in Moondust/Smoke Grey color. A teak cockpit combing and toe rail brings out the beauty of the lines of hull and deck. Custom stainless steel chocks are fitted fore, aft and amidships along with stainless steel pop-up cleats, which also bring a true sense of quality and beauty to the deck design.

The mast is a keel-stepped Selden™ carbon fiber mast with a clear carbon finish, aluminum boom, rod rigging, rigid boom vang and Bartell™ below-deck roller furling. Basic sail plan includes a fully battened main and 100% roller-furling jib. Spinnaker gear is optional. Harken™ supplies the deck hardware.

“We really spent time thinking about how to keep the lines of the boat as clean as possible so that nothing would detract from its looks. It cost a little more, but it’s clearly worth it when you see the finished product,” says Hood. “There is nothing onboard to distract from her purpose. Finished with a sense of beauty all her own, the 32 goes up wind with a real sense of speed and grace while tracking beautifully down wind.”

Dr. Frank Morse, the first owner of the 32’, notes, "When I first saw the drawings of the Hood 32, I was taken with its beautiful lines. I have been a lifelong sailor/racer and after a few years hiatus, was looking for a performance-oriented Daysailer. Working with Chris Hood and his crew during the building has been a pleasure. Now that I have sailed the boat, it is everything I had hoped it would be both in appearance and handling. It is a true home run!".

“This project has been very gratifying for both me and my team,” says Hood. “We have built a lot of boats over the years, but this is the first boat we can really call ’all our own‘ and say it with pride and pleasure.”

Pricing for single boats starts at $97,900. Introductory Yacht Club Fleet pricing will be considered, based on the number of boats ordered by a club.
