Dr. Phil and Robin McGraw have joined the Iraq Star Foundation’s Board of Directors, it was announced today by Maggie Lockridge, founder and CEO of the non-profit organization dedicated to providing the necessary reconstructive surgeries to assist war veterans recovering from physically disfiguring injuries.
Dr. Phil and Robin have been committed to bringing national attention to the Iraq Star Foundation from the moment they first met Lockridge and learned of her mission. Dr. Phil, in his eighth season, has featured Iraq Star on several episodes of his daytime talk show and hosted the organization’
“We are excited and honored to have both Dr. Phil and Robin McGraw join us on the Board of Iraq Star,” states Lockridge. “The extensive reach of the DR. PHIL show has created a significant increase in the public’s awareness of the needs of America’s wounded warriors and of Iraq Star. I cannot express how much we look forward to our continued relationship as we enter heightened activity in Afghanistan and a greater need to serve our wounded this year.”
More than 40,000 brave men and women have returned wounded from Iraq and Afghanistan and must face the daunting challenge of recovery. The military replaces their missing arms and legs with prosthetics, provides the initial surgeries and grafts needed to close wounds and strives to help veterans recover their functionality. Many times, however, terrible scarring from shrapnel, burns and wound trauma remain and surgeries are still needed to help veterans return to their homes, careers and the lives they knew before they were deployed. This is when Iraq Star comes into the picture.
“By lending their names to the exclusive and prestigious list of Iraq Star Board Members the McGraws are ensuring that more wounded warriors will have the opportunity to receive the treatment they need to rejoin the community they sacrificed so much for to protect,” Lockridge said.
