Since 2006, Juvederm has proven to be a popular injectable filler used for lip enhancement procedures and for the treatment of “smile lines” and depressed scars. Composed largely of hyaluronic acid (a substance that naturally occurs in the skin) Juvederm is injected under the skin to smooth the “smile” lines on the sides of the nose and mouth. It also works great for lip enhancement and filling depressed scars. The Juvederm procedure takes only 15 minutes, yet the results are immediate.
The newly formulated Juvederm XC is now FDA approved and is available immediately. Juvederm XC features the addition of a local anesthetic called lidocaine, which numbs the skin and provides a much more comfortable experience for the patient.
The new Juvederm XC formulation also promises treatments that will last up to one year, meaning fewer return trips to the doctor to obtain the results that you want.
Some patients may experience side effects such as temporary injection-site redness, swelling, pain/tenderness, firmness, lumps/bumps, and bruising. Most side effects are mild or moderate in nature, and their duration is short lasting (7 days or less). And of course patients with an allergy to lidocaine should not use this product.
