Torvill and Dean' by Manchester electro band STAZI is the subject of a Facebook campaign to get it officially recognised as this years theme song.
The humorous, yet poignant lyrics tell of a young man, who is infatuated with an ice skater at his local rink, but hasn't got the courage to join her on the ice, as he can't skate, and is scared due to stories he has heard about people losing fingers. One time he does try to join her, he unfortunately falls in front of her and spills his slush puppy.
He tries to imagine that he and the object of his affections are Torvill and Dean, performing at the Sarajevo Olympics
The vocals bring to mind Pulp, John Shuttleworth and Scott Walker and are complemented with some excellent production from Joe Robinson, who produced Badly Drawn Boy's first album, Hour of the Bewilderbeast. Combined it creates a dark, bolero, lo-fi cabaret song which captures the spirit of Sarajevo 1984 and young love perfectly and manages to be both hilarious and tragic at the same time.
