‘Bake it Better’ with Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity and My Dish

Social network for foodies gathers children’s recipes for charity book to be published later this year in support of children with cancer

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Feb 08, 2010 -
Throughout February 2010, Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity and MyDish, the ‘foodie’ social network successful on ‘Dragons’ Den’, are urging supporters to Bake it Better, part of the annual Kiss it Better appeal to raise funds for research into the causes and treatment of childhood cancer.

Visitors to http://www.MyDish.co.uk can get involved with the charity’s campaign by joining the Bake it Better group and sharing their own recipes with other members. There are currently more than one hundred delicious recipes waiting to be consumed. The aim of MyDish’s online campaign for the Hospital is to gather a new collection of children’s recipes, with the best ones chosen to feature in a special recipe book, with sale proceeds from the book going to Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.

“We’re asking everyone, grannies, grandads, mums, dads and children to get involved so we can publish the best collection of recipes for children there’s ever been. MyDish’s aim is to raise much needed funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital and UCLH, which together form the largest centre in Europe for children with cancer,” said Carol Savage, founder of MyDish and mother to three sons, one of whom was successfully treated at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

In addition to MyDish, Bake it Better is also supported by a number of celebrities including award winning chef Tom Aikens, model and keen cook Sophie Dahl, who has contributed her personal favourite recipe for vanilla cup cakes and Valentine Warner, chef and author of ‘What To Eat Now’.

Childhood cancer is the biggest disease affecting children today. The ambition of the Kiss it Better appeal is to cut the death rates of childhood cancer, whilst reducing the side effects of treatment. This year’s appeal is funding the training and employment of three clinical research nurses who will enlist children onto clinical trials. It’s been proven that children enlisted on these trails do significantly better.
