Feb. 5, 2010 - PRLog -- If your looking for the cheapest flyers, the best place to look is on the Internet. Nearly every business will check leaflet printing samples from the companies on their shortlist, and then make a deicision based on price. The director of Wingway Computers tells us how he saved a lot of money on his leaflets by doing the design himself. We find out how he saved cash on the design of his promotional flyers and how you could try it as well.

James is always looking for a shrewd deal, that’s why his business is so successful. When it came to printing full colour flyers he was no different. The budget for the business leaflets was tight this year and he had to find the cheapest flyer printing (http://leaflet-printing-uk.ning.com) available without compromising quality.

"After spending about 30min looking for flyer printers and trying to find the best flyer printing deal, I eventually stumbled upon some affordable leaflet printing. I was shocked to see that the design price for the promotional leaflets was going to be 138.00! That wasnt in the leaflets printing budget and we couldnt pay it.” Explains James. After looking around a bit he found a few tutorials and blog’s on designing your full colour leaflets yourself. After searching around the Internet, he found out the following:

Design Application

He told me, "You need to start by finding a good application to design your flyers printing on. Don’t rush this, or else it could cause you a lot of hassle later.” The easiest software to use to design your leaflet is desktop publishing software such as Word. This is quick and simple, however most printers require you to provide the artwork for your leaflet in PDF, and you cant save in this format. To design really nice flyer printing, you need to use a professional graphic design application such as Photoshop.

Setting your Leaflet up for Printing

“To design your flyer for printing using Photoshop, set the canvas size to the correct size of the leaflet, plus bleed. When the leaflet printing company has printed your flyer, they will be on a big sheet with lots of other leaflet printing (http://www.skprintdesign.com/website/manchester_printing/...). So it is important that you leave a little excess around the edges of your design to prevent them from cutting into it too much - this is bleed. About 3mm is the average amount of bleed required on a leaflet," he explains. Therefore, if you decide to print flyers that are A4 (210x297mm) then you need to add 3mm more around the edges of your design. So the total size will be 216x303mm.

It is important to set the colour scheme of your colour flyers to CMYK, it may be RGB by default. You tv screen uses the colours red, green, blue to create the image of your leaflet, this is known as RGB. The actual ink colours used in leaflet printing are cyan, magenta, yellow and black, or CMYK. Setting the colours to CMYK may make the colours of your leaflet look slightly darker on the monitor, but it will look much better when printed.

Nearly all the leaflet printing companies ask for you to change the image res to 300dpi for high quality flyer printing. Your leaflet may look good on your computer, but screens can only do 72dpi, when its printed you will be able to see all the pixels on you leaflet.

“When you send your leaflet design to the printers, ask them to send you a proof by email, you can check that the flyer looks correct before its printed. The leaflet printingcompany will alert you if there are any design errors in you leaflet before they print. It is hard and time consuming to design your flyer printing yourself. If you dont have the time or the patience, you can always leave the design of your leaflet printing to the professionals!”
