Wineries Unlimited Announces Details of Wine Marketing Programming:
Thursday Sessions and Friday Workshop

Santa Rosa, California (February 4, 2010) — Wineries Unlimited, the nation’s second largest vineyard and winery conference and trade show, presents two of the most creative wine marketing consultants in the country during two full days of programming: Elizabeth Slater of InShort Marketing and Paul Wagner of Balzac Communications. Produced by Vineyard & Winery Management magazine since 1976, Wineries Unlimited (www.wineriesunlimited.com) takes place March 9-12, 2010 at the Valley Forge Convention Center (www.vfconventioncenter.com), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania in suburban Philadelphia.

Slater and Wagner will conduct five hours of sessions on Thursday, March 11 that address the background issues of marketing theory and provide insight of the U.S. wine market.

Building on that foundation during the daylong Friday workshop, attendees will learn how to use a variety of specific tactics and tools as they follow the theme of “Building Community Around Your Brand”. With different production volumes, marketing plans and programs, vintners can determine the most effective means for their specific situations.

“It's important that the wineries are as grounded in marketing and promotion as they are in winemaking and grape growing,” said Slater. “Our goal is that every attendee leaves with marketing knowledge they can use today and five years from now.”

“We start with the basics,” said Wagner, “and then take attendees through every possible practical step to a better marketing and sales plan with tons of specific examples and tactics they can implement today.”

Richard Leahy, program director and East Coast editor of Vineyard & Winery Management, cites three important reasons for Eastern wineries to attend these sessions that relate to the conference theme, “Balancing Quality and Costs for Profit”:

•   As U.S. wine consumption rises, and the recession continues, international producers are targeting the U.S. market, and all U.S. producers have to aggressively market to stay competitive.
•   Distribution is consolidating and the channel is considered increasingly unproductive for small/regional wineries, putting the emphasis on other channels such as tasting rooms, web sales, and wine clubs.
•   Each generation responds to different marketing media and techniques, and wineries should become comfortable with the means of reaching out to various generational segments.
