SAN FRANCISCO, CA   "This is a time of great opportunity for creative arts and the music business!  It's all about collaboration. The power that comes from unity is what ‘Valence’ means."  And with those words from founder Gregory James, Valence Records (http://valencerecords.net/) announces its debut this month.  Elite artists on the label cross genres from rock, jamband, jazz, dj, electronica and avante garde to bring emotionally charged music back to the homes of the listener.  From production to marketing, everyone associated with Valence Records has one thing in common -- a passion for music.

"Valence Records reunites artistry with craftsmanship in music, recording, graphics and the written word.  Combine that with a passion for new technology and love for fans and it's hard not to be successful," says Cookie Marenco (http://cookiemarenco.com/) - co-founder of Valence Records.  Marenco is no stranger to high quality sound.  Her own label, Blue Coast Records (http://www.bluecoastrecords.com/), has achieved phenomenal success in the audiophile world.

Other artists signed to Valence Records include legendary composer Butch Morris  (http://butchmorris.com) - celebrating his 25th year of Conduction®, Emily Palen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYGvGWY1FDs) - violinist and Semi-Finalist in the 2008 My GRAMMY Moment contest and Gregory James (http://gregoryjames.com/), contemporary jazz guitarist with 8 albums to his credit and founder of the label.

With 8 projects scheduled for release in 2010, Valence will break new ground providing fans with 96kHz (24 96) high resolution and CD Quality downloads first, followed by legacy products (CDs, vinyl), branded merchandise as well as contests to bring the fan experience directly to the artists involved with the label.

The first release, The Valence Project, is a collaborative effort of world renown musicians that includes Brain (drummer from Guns N’ Roses, Tom Waits, Primus), Kai Eckhardt (John McLaughlin, Garaj Mahal), Eamonn Flynn (Commitments, Zigaboo Modeliste), Gregory James, BluCube, Deborah Charles, Melissa Reese, Emily Palen and Jonathan Herrera.  The music is a texture of electronica, hip-hop and avante garde that resembles Zero Seven blended with Radiohead style and Jeff Beck on guitar.

The Valence Project will formally become available on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2010 though not in a fashion most people expect.  Produced by Cookie Marenco and Gregory James, this recording challenged even the finest musicians to reach their fullest creative abilities.

The first single from The Valence Project, "Who Do You Love", is a Bo Diddley cover sung by Deborah Charles (http://www.myspace.com/vinylgypsy). The haunting primal groove set the stage for a remix contest scheduled to begin on Valentine's Day and featuring stems from this track.
