Texas Orthopedic Hospital, and the Fondren Orthopedic Group L.L.P, Send Bone-Saving Medical Devices and Orthopedic Supplies to Haiti
Houston, TX-Feb. 3, 2010-- Texas Orthopedic Hospital and the physicians of the Fondren Orthopedic Group L.L.P, one of the largest sub-specialized orthopedic practices in the nation, announced today donations of medical devices and orthopedic supplies in support of relief efforts to victims of the recent earthquakes in Haiti.
The members of the Fondren Orthopedic Group realize that the massive devastation in Haiti left many of the survivors with bone crushing injuries. “The supplies we are providing are vital in the medical care to victims during times of disaster and war. Such bone devices include external fixators, a surgical treatment used to set complex bone fractures in which a cast would not be a sufficient alternative. Without proper medical equipment and surgery, these crushing injuries often result in amputation of the affected limb,” states Dr. Gugenheim.
Joseph J. Gugenheim, MD, a board certified orthopedic surgeon with the Fondren Orthopedic Group, specializing in Ilizarov and limb reconstruction surgery, is one of the many surgeons within the Fondren Orthopedic Group playing an instrumental role in collecting supplies to send to Haiti. “This equipment will successfully assist in the treatment of the most complex bone diseases and deformities,”
In addition to the fixator equipment, crutches, braces, and a variety of surgical instruments have been sent and donations continue to be gathered.
