Ex-US Army sergeant tackles theme on “military childhood” through Xlibris release.

Feb. 4, 2010 - PRLog -- Anyone who had ever experienced having to relocate on account of a parent or a loved one’s career would know all too well the pains of uprooting oneself from the familiar comforts of home and the challenges of embracing a new environment.

For children facing the prospect of moving and starting over, the book “Jared, Fort Hood Brat: The Beginning” offers visually captivating lessons about letting go, transitioning and the joys of forging new relationships.

This is the underlying theme of this eponymous book by first-time author Yvette Flah, as seen through the eyes of its 6-year old protagonist, Jared.  “Military kids are special,” Yvette revealed. “They go through moves and deployments and nobody pays much attention to them.”

In conceiving the book, Yvette draws from her own experience transferring and bringing her son along while serving as a US Army sergeant stationed in Fort Hood, Texas.  She traced the beginnings of the book back in 2005, but proceeded with the actual production of the book only in April 2009.

Galvanized by a radio broadcast about the year 2009 as the year of innovation, Yvette took action, completed her manuscript and spared no effort in canvassing for the right publisher to work with.  She found the self-publishing route with leading self-publishing and print-on-demand company Xlibris very convenient, as the different stages of bringing her manuscript to press ensure that everything conforms to her standards.

With Xlibris’ extensive range of Full-color, Black and White and Specialty Publishing packages, Yvette d got her book duly published by December of the same year and has been featured in the Killeen Daily Herald Homefront section in January 27,2010. She just recently completed the manuscript for the sequel entitled “Jared’s Deployment”, which will be released soon.

Yvette now works at Fort Hood as a Department of the Army civilian and plans to re-enlist as a reservist later this year.
