Feb. 3, 2010 - PRLog -- Bellevue, WA -- Pharmacy OneSource, Inc., software as a service provider to more than 1,300 hospitals in the United States, announced today that Citizens Baptist Medical Center has adopted Sentri7 electronic surveillance and Simplifi 797 quality assurance software to improve efficiency in clinical workflows.

With Sentri7, clinicians have a single point of access to patient demographics; lab and radiology results; and medication, surgery and nursing records... data that currently reside in different systems. Clinicians can write rules against the data to identify and flag at-risk patients.

"We have seen a tremendous improvement in efficiencies with our pharmacists since implementing Sentri7," said Lee Ann Cain, Director of Pharmacy at Citizens Baptist Medical Center. "The pharmacists are able to address real-time issues when they are notified via the dashboard versus waiting on the paper reports to print out daily. We are also able to work through the issues without wading through useless data to get to the data that we need to make decisions."

Sentri7 can help the hospital comply with national standards and core measures set by the government and hospital accreditation bodies. For example, the program can flag patients that may have had a heart attack and check to ensure they are taking aspirin, beta blockers or other preventative treatment required by Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). It can also monitor patient on anticoagulants for the Joint Commission's National Patient Safety Goal 3.

"We are a small rural hospital and our pharmacists wear many hats... so to be able to make sound clinical decisions by using a tool like Sentri7 is a true asset to this facility," said Cain. "We monitor anticoagulation, antibiotic use and appropriateness, core measures and many other items in a very efficient manner through rules built in Sentri7. I feel this tool has made our pharmacy an even bigger asset to our physicians and the hospital as well."

Citizens Baptist Medical Center has also adopted Simplifi 797 to simplify meeting all of the requirements of the U.S. Pharmacopeia's Chapter 797 best practice guidelines for compounding sites throughout the facility.

"Simplifi 797 has made USP 797 compliance easy for us. We are able to monitor everything in a timely manner and the reminders keep us from having gaps in our data," said Cain. "The monthly report is a blessing and we keep these for the board of pharmacy when they visit."

Simplifi 797 is a web-based application that automates, integrates and streamlines quality activities and documentation. Simplifi 797 manages task scheduling for environmental monitoring and automates the reporting of exceptions and compliance.

"We found Simplifi 797 so useful with the 797 tasks that we have expanded it to other daily pharmacy tasks to keep the staff aware of what needs to be done," Cain said. "The best thing the staff likes about Simplifi 797 is the elimination of paper. They are able to record the temperatures and task completions in the computer without keeping up with logs and paper forms."
