Feb. 3, 2010 - PRLog -- Abingdon at TraditionSM, an all-inclusive, luxury retirement community in Port St. Lucie, Fla. celebrated its clubhouse opening on January 20, 2010.  The clubhouse, Abingdon’s cornerstone of independent living, represents a brick-and- mortar commitment to erasing the stigma many associate with retirement communities while promoting longer, healthier and more independent lives for members.

The more than 350 guests in attendance included local professionals and seniors as well as representatives from local government.  Port St. Lucie Vice Mayor Jack Kelly joined St. Lucie County Commissioner Paula Lewis in a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at the beginning of the event.

Abingdon’s Executive Director Jonathan Collins as well as CEO of Senior Living Communities Donald Thompson also spoke during the ceremony.  Senior Living Communities owns and operates Abingdon as well as nine other retirement communities throughout the Southeast.

While some of the speakers complemented the beautiful buildings and the variety of amenities future members expect from a luxury retirement destination, Thompson’s speech was decidedly no-nonsense.

“Our wellness programs and lifestyle support systems enable folks to live longer, more independent lives in their own homes at a higher quality level,” Thompson said.  “We think people can live independently to over 100 with the right support network – and our commitment to comprehensive member wellness is a visible reminder of that goal.”

Abingdon opened its doors to members with the Clubhouse opening, and the community will celebrate a three-month series of grand opening events throughout the spring as different sections of the community open.

“We offer incredible amenities and affordable pricing,” Collins said.  “When you combine that with our commitment to member wellness and our desire to preserve independence instead of using our health care services as a one-size-fits-all approach, it’s hard to ignore the long-term benefits of moving to our community.”
