Archbishop Stepinac High School’s Drama Club will present the regional premiere of “The Drowsy Chaperone” during the spring season, April 23-May 2. The show, which marks the 98th production in the club’s history, will be staged at Stepinac’s Major Bowes Auditorium, 950 Mamaroneck Avenue, White Plains.
The musical comedy features such catchy songs, “As We Stumble Along” and “Show Off”. The school’s production of The Drowsy Chaperone will be the first in this area following the Broadway and national tour. It will also mark only the second nationally licensed production of the five-time Tony award winning show since the close of the tour.
A Tony winner for Bob Martin and Don McKellar’s book and Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison’s score, The Drowsy Chaperone is a zany romp that parodies a lively 1920s score and a book filled with hilarious one-liners and classic musical comedy gags. The show centers on “Man in Chair” who invites the audience to listen to his favorite musical from that era entitled, The Drowsy Chaperone. As the audience listens to the record the show comes to life in the living room of “Man in Chair” and we are swept up by debonair actors and glamorous actresses.
The Drowsy Chaperone will run for two weekends with performances on April 23, 24, 30, May 1, 2 at 7:30pm and May 2 at 3pm. Tickets are $15 and $12 for senior citizens and children under 12.
