It has been reported that the Stroud Brass Band festival that conducted nine concerts per year is to be wound up by te organisers citing odds such as rocketing fuel prices and a falling number of audience. The organisers of the never-say-die event have finally decided to call it a day railing they could no longer carry on with the event beyond 2010.
Meanwhile, tributes were to be paid to the late Ossie Stephens, the founder of the event, as well as the people that helped it carry-on this far, on Sunday, at a special concert.
Trevor Picken, the president of the festival that undertook nine concerts a year, said that companies ad individuals could in the future put on more concerts. He added that when they started the event they were able to bring here a band from the north fr just GBP 120, which included transport.
Picken lamented that if one wished to bring a brass band here down from Yorkshire, he must have to arrange the payment of GBP 500 for the coach alone, besides the amount for the musician's remuneration. However, he hoped that there would be people that wanted to stage brass band concerts although on an ad hoc basis.
Nevertheless, any die-hard fan of brass band concerts will be given to enjoy, a final grand gala concert that would take place in June this year.
