Feb. 3, 2010 - PRLog -- SKF, the world’s leading knowledge engineering company, has launched a new and technically advanced family of telescopic pillars, called the Telemag CPI. Designed to be used in industrial automation systems, including workstations, assembly lines, packing stations and despatch areas, the new family of telescopic pillars are claimed by SKF to be stronger, faster and more powerful than competing devices. In addition, they combine a unique range of features that will help both OEMs and end users improve performance, productivity and safety in many different production operations.

The new Telemag CPI telescopic pillars are available as two or three section units, and have been developed to enable work benches, tables or platforms to be automatically raised and lowered to provide an ergonomic working environment that complies with the latest health and safety legislation.

Each CPI telescopic pillar incorporates a powerful 24V DC linear actuator integrated into the body of the base section to give smooth, accurate and easy controlled movement of the columns, at operating speeds of between 0.6 and 1.86 metres per minute under full load.  Control of the actuator can be provided by simple hand, foot or desk mounted switches, with SKF also being able to offer the option of an encoder for applications that require greater levels of precision and repeatability.

Depending on the model and application, the new Telemag CPI telescopic pillars produce stroke lengths of between 200 and 700mm and are capable of withstanding high bending and offset loads; for example, the three section unit with a 700mm stroke will withstand 4,000N when applied directly above the pillar and up to 1,000N at a distance of 900mm from the centre of the unit.

In practice, this gives working heights of between 350 and 850mm, with each unit also being capable of delivering extremely high push and pull forces of up to 4,000N, enabling heavy loads to be controlled in complete safety. Perhaps as importantly, the concept of the new Telemag CPI family is to offer design and production engineers the optimum level of flexibility, with the ability to develop systems using multiple pillar units. Typically, three or six Telemag CPI units can be integrated with a single controller to create large, stable and powerful workstations or production platforms that are easy to setup, operate and maintain.

The new Telemag CPI units incorporate both a standard T-slot in the outer section, to allow ancillary devices to be fitted, and a cable feed-through, plus, as an option, lifetime monitoring sensors. Telemag CPI telescopic pillars are backed by SKF’s comprehensive technical and applications support services, with the company also offering a full range of complementary linear motion products.
