ATLANTA—First launched last summer as an eBook by veteran professional “headhunter”
Freeman said the popularity of the eBook version of “Headhunter”
The 348-page book, designed to help the millions of beleaguered job seekers in the worst job market in a generation, is already being heralded by early reviewers as THE definitive job search/career change guide for 2010 and beyond, and as “today’s ‘bible’ for job seekers.”
“Many, if not most, job-help books tend to have a rather narrow focus, usually concentrating on just a few aspects involved in the typical job search or career change,” Freeman said. “For example, many book focus just on how to write a résumé, or how to interview well, that sort of thing. “Headhunter”
TWO SETS OF 'RULES' IN TODAY'S 'HIRING GAME'
As a result of the tsunami of change that blew through the job market during the last two years, Freeman said, today there really are TWO sets of “rules” in the hiring game:
The OLD rules job seekers think hiring companies still play by; and
The NEW rules that the companies actually play by.
EXAMPLES OF THE NEW RULES OF THE HIRING GAME
In the Introduction and Overview of “Headhunter”
1. Today’s unemployment situation is not merely part of a “normal” job cycle. Many, if not most, lost jobs simply are NOT going to return.
2. Recent worker productivity increases necessitated by decreasing numbers of employees is not a temporary phenomenon.
The workload carried by today’s—and tomorrow’s—
3. The economic landscape has already changed significantly, and that change can only be expected to continue, with substantial, long-term implications for future job seekers.
Among many other things, the altered economic landscape means that many of the skill sets that currently are or recently were “in supply,” unfortunately, are no longer “in demand.”
4. Job seekers who continue to rely exclusively, or nearly exclusively, upon the Internet for job leads will no longer be seeing the “whole picture.”
5. It is substantially more difficult today to get one’s résumé in front of a hiring manager/company, and it can only be expected to become even more difficult to do that in the future.
Because the majority of job seekers apply to positions online, companies have set up extremely effective “screening”
Each of these NEW rules has substantial, immediate implications for today’s job seekers, Freeman pointed out, and of course he details what those implications are in “Headhunter”
Unless a job seeker today first learns what the NEW rules of the hiring game are, and then implements the strategies and tactics necessary to effectively compete in the significantly changed job market, he or she will have little, if any, chance of ever positioning himself or herself as a TOP candidate for the decreasing number of jobs available, Freeman said.
“On the other hand, those job seekers who do take the time and do make the effort to learn the NEW rules of the hiring game, and who do implement the appropriate tactics and strategies to position themselves as top candidates will be the ones who will get hired,” he added. “That’s precisely what I do in “Headhunter”
