PRLog (Press Release) - Feb 03, 2010 -
Michael Kelligan’s new season of drama from Wales, ‘On the Edge’, opens with Gwenno Dafydd’s Paying the Full Whack on Wednesday, 10 February at 7.30pm at the Dylan Thomas Centre.

This script-held performance tells the moving story of two friends, Ivor and Brian .

Covering the years between 1970 - 2002, the story is about the effect the Falklands war has on their friendship, and examines events surrounding the Miners strike.

The play has resonance today as soldiers respond to the atrocities in Afghanistan, and, as we approach a general election this year, it’s a reminder of the decisions made by the previous Conservative government and the chilling legacy still faced by families today.

Gwenno Dafydd has been researching her play with the assistance of Simon Weston.

Gwenno Dafydd is an actor, singer, comedian, writer and linguist.

She has appeared in both the English soap Casualty and the Welsh soap Pobl Y Cwm and in many comedy roles on TV.

She also has her own one- woman show based on the songs of Edith Piaf.

Paying the Full Whack’s cast includes  Richard Tunley, James Ashton, Bethan Thomas, Alison John and Richard Shackley. The play is directed by Julie Barclay and produced by Michael Kelligan.

This is the first script-held production in Michael Kelligan’s year-long season under the title Deadlier Than The Male (plays by all female writers with all women directors). Forthcoming productions include:

Wednesday, 10 March: Gryfhead  by Lucy Gough

Wednesday, 28 April:  Don't Breathe A Word by Susan Richardson

Tickets are £4, and are available in advance on 01792 463980, or on the door.
