By: wacky nation Arguably the world's craziest duo, Sally Raynes and James Bamber, known as Wacky Nation, are keen to hear from anyone interested in hosting a very unusual sporting event in 2010 - the 2010 World Baby Crawling Championships TM. James says: “Don’t give childhood obesity a chance, get your children into sport as soon as they can crawl. Parents will be desperate to enter their children into the Championships, which will be run over a very short distance. The winner will not only become a world champion, but the 'youngest ever world champion.’ We now need somewhere to hold the event, which can take place in a field, town square, park or even indoors and would make the perfect entertainment for a warm summer day” Sally and James have spent the last four years travelling the UK, competing in over 115 wacky sports and contests. They have written a book (also called Wacky Nation) and set up a website, www.wackynation.com. Inevitably they have now started to conceive and organise their own crazy sports and championships, but are in need of suitable venues, anywhere in the UK, to host them. Wacky Nation will organise the event, deal with promotion and host the event on the day. All they need from anyone interested is a venue. In 2009, Sally organised the UK Rock Paper Scissor Championships in Exeter, which attracted over 100 competitors and raised money for the children's charity, CLIC Sargent. Sally also conceived and helped set up the inaugural World Wellington Boot Throwing Championship, which took place in Wellington (where else!), Somerset last September. James and Sally have a further two events requiring a venue: • 2010 UK Rock, Paper, Scissors ChampionshipsTM – Are you a bureaucrat or a. Last year the event took place in Exeter, Devon, where competitors battled their way through a knockout contest by throwing the eponymous hand gestures. Wacky Nation is now seeking another venue for this simple, yet highly addictive and controversial decision making game, popular with all walks of life. • Finally for now, Wacky Nation has the rights to the UK Backward Running ChampionshipsTM. The World Championships are being held later this year in Austria, but why wait until then to discover a whole new world to running and keeping fit. The UK Championships will probably consist of a 100 metre sprint distance and a one mile taster. Ideally, the venue will be wide and flat with a soft surface e.g. beach, trail, field. Backward Running has many physical and mental benefits (including one of the best and fun ways to lose weight) and could very easily become the next big exercise craze. Further details on backward running at www.reverserunning.com Whether you’re a village or town wanting to attract more visitors, a charity seeking to raise money or maybe a pub or business keen to boost trade and/or popularity, Wacky Nation would like to hear from you. James Bamber says, 'Wacky Nation is all about crazy sports and contests. We have already participated in over 115 wacky events in the UK. We are hoping to start competing in events globally but are also building a portfolio of our own outlandish and mad events in the UK, determined to make the whole country go completely mad!. We are looking for anyone interested in hosting a very unusual and unique event, guaranteed to get people talking. The events will get international publicity.’ Further details on these events and on Wacky Nation can be found at www.wackynation.com. James and Sally can also be contacted on 07980287031 or at wackynation@ ENDS Notes to Editor FYI 1) JAMES BAMBER and SALLY RAYNES James Bamber from Tiverton in Devon is the co-author of Wacky Nation: 50 unbelievable sports and contests. He has also taken part in over 100 mad, crazy and downright idiotic events in the UK. James is on an action packed (and lifelong) schedule to enter contests and races around the world. His underlying intention is to discover THE wackiest contest, race or championship, whether it is in Totnes or Timbuktu. James finally achieved his first major victory last week, when he won the Pantomime Horse Grand National in Birmingham. Even though Sally is less prolific in the competitive side of wacky sports, she is responsible for developing a portfolio of wacky events. In 2009, Sally organised the UK Rock Paper Scissor Championships in Exeter, which attracted over 100 competitors and raised money for charity, and the inaugural World Wellington Boot Throwing Championship, that took place in Wellington (where else!), Somerset last September. In 2010, Wacky Nation hopes to organize a few more wacky sports and races. James and Sally recently returned from the World Winter Swimming Championships in freezing Lake Bled, Slovenia. 2) Wacky Nation: 50 Unbelievable Days Out at Britain’s Craziest Contests James and Sally present 50 of the oddest contests you could ever have imagined. With a strongly practical, get-involved- James is back on the road for books 2 and 3 (yet to sign a book deal), before taking on the world to continue promoting his dubious reputation as the world’s biggest idiot. He is open to challenges from anyone disputing his status. End
