UK Car Insurance – Drivers Disqualified on Irish Roads to be Banned in UK
Drivers who have been forced to claim on their car insurance due to accidents and breakdowns or have been caught speeding will not escape punishment back in the UK.
An agreement between British, Irish and Northern Irish ministers has been passed, with the new law coming into action from Thursday 4th February. The agreement works in both ways, with Irish drivers also banned from driving in their homeland if penalised in the United Kingdom.
This agreement between the two EU countries is the first of its kind and closes any potential loopholes that allowed a driver to be banned from driving in Northern Ireland but hold a clean driving licence in the south.
UK road safety minister, Paul Clark, said: "We need to continue to work to make our roads even safer and if a UK driver commits a serious offence while in Ireland it is right that their ban should still apply when they return home."
This news comes just days after it was revealed that re-offending drivers with multiple driving penalties almost certainly have to pay increased UK car insurance (http://www.compareinsurers.com) premiums.
