This is the third animated feature movie from the production house of Disney (Preceded by “Open Season” and “Surf’s Up”), which has again produced charming animated characters. Children will love the movie’s jokes as well as the refined plastic humor and also a colorful and engaging storyline that won’t bore the parents. The town designed in the movie, collapsing under a storm of food, is simply eye-candy (in more than one way), and looks like the world the Tim Burton could have created if he received more warmth and love as a child.
“Cloudy, With A Chance Of Meatballs” is an original, entertaining and appealing movie, due in large to the Hebrew dubbing produced by Elrom Studios. This, as we are talking about food, added spice (it’s worth noting that the movie is being screened in Israel only in its Hebrew dubbed version), showing the fine line between the enjoyment of life’s pleasures and unrestrained appetites. 3-D technology also emphasizes the small step between enjoyment and gluttony, when refined and aesthetic food turns repulsive and threatening at ten times its normal size.
“Cloudy, With A Chance Of Meatballs” is a funny and clever movie, with endless acknowledgments and digs at movies and cinematic genres. Beyond the parodical scenes of computer/sci-fi/action films with computerized laboratories and operational code names, you can identify humoristic winks at movies like “Armageddon” (the flight to the belly of the machine and its explosion) or “The Twilight Zone” (the
battle of Gummy Bears on the airplane’s wings).
There are children’s movies that are better to send Grandma (or the uncle) to along with the kids, and there are movies that are best kept for yourselves. Go see it.
