Facebook users have another way to support the fight against hunger here in North Texas. From now until the end of March, every new fan of WIRED Zipline Challenge Course on Facebook will equal one dollar given to the North Texas Food Bank, up to $2010. In an effort to end hunger during tight economic times and promote necessary food bank re-stocking, WIRED owners feel that this is an important and easy way for everyone to contribute. Everyone can click a button to wipe out hunger.
Recent storms in Haiti and local destruction in East Texas last week have caused people to pull together for the common good. Texans are adopting Haitian orphans and taking in homeless families in need of refuge. The NTFB anticipates many needing help to feed their new families. During times like these, every little contribution matters. What's important now, WIRED believes, is getting our supplies in order where they can do the most good.
Food banks typically suffer severe shortages after the holidays. This year was no exception. Higher unemployment and fewer raises coinciding with the rising cost of living have left many more hungry than the North Texas Food Bank normally supplies. Consumed reserves have not been replenished, and resources are low. People need to remember that hunger exists all year round, not just around the holidays. North Texas Food Bank supplies many other local church and charitable organizations with the food they warehouse. It's an enormous supply chain in need, not just one area.
Support your North Texas Food Bank. It only takes a few moments to fan WIRED Zipline Challenge Course on Facebook, and 2010 new fans means $2010 to feed hungry families in North Texas. It won't end there, there is a continual need to keep our reserves well stocked. But Texans have a giving reputation, and WIRED believes we can all do our part to replenish our food banks, one dollar at a time.
