Aberdeen, Scotland, January 31st, 2010 – Calibre Power Electronics Ltd, a leading UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) service and supply company, said today it has won a contract from Wood Group Engineering to supply a dual redundant 120kVA UPS system.
Calibre Power will supply the UPS system for the Cormorant Alpha Oil and Gas platform in the North Sea which is operated by TAQA Bratani. The UPS will be manufactured by Gutor Electronics in Switzerland, a world renowned UPS company.
“We have had a fantastic relationship providing UPS service, maintenance and breakdown cover with the majority of the major Oil & Gas companies working in the North Sea sector for over 10 years now,” said Jagdesh Rana, director of Calibre Power. “More recently we have been asked by these companies to provide tenders to supply complete UPS systems. With the expansion of our company in the last year we have now decided to move into this side of the market. Our focus is in giving a superior customer experience driven by delivering quality at every stage for a very competitive price.”
The 120kVA dual redundant UPS will replace the ageing Pelican Subsea UPS system that is already on the Cormorant Alpha. As the platform now has extended field life the UPS system has to be robust and provide very high minimum MTBF (mean time before failures). Gutor already have many industrial UPS systems situated on platforms throughout the North Sea that already have proven track records.
“We have a very good relationship with Gutor Electronics in Switzerland,”
